ANNAPOLIS – Maryland Governor Wes Moore has introduced a new Marijuana Workforce Development Program aimed at helping people with past cannabis convictions. This initiative provides training and job opportunities within Maryland’s growing cannabis industry, giving a second chance to those affected by outdated cannabis laws.

Leading Cannabis Reform

The program introduced by Governor Moore is the first in the nation developed and managed by a cannabis regulatory agency. It aims to legalize marijuana while directly addressing the social and economic damage caused by its prohibition.

Program Details

The program includes eight self-paced courses led by industry experts, licensed operators, and college professors. Participants will complete 100 hours of virtual instruction followed by a two-day, hands-on training session. This blend of online learning and practical experience covers all aspects of the cannabis business, from cultivation to compliance.

Training sessions begin in Baltimore this November, with plans to expand to other regions across Maryland.

Joint Effort

The program is a partnership between the Maryland Cannabis Administration and the Department of Labor. It also involves collaborations with licensed cannabis operators and educational institutions like Anne Arundel Community College and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. These partnerships are designed to enhance the quality of training and increase job placement opportunities for participants.

Breaking Down Barriers

The program is free, removing financial barriers for those impacted by past cannabis laws. This ensures that those most affected can access new job opportunities in the cannabis industry.
