New Year’s Eve celebrations options abound across the state

What are you doing New Year’s Eve? For the undecided, check out this list of events happening in Maryland to ring in the new year.

Aberdeen VFW Bingo

The Aberdeen VFW Post 10028 Auxiliary hosts an annual New Year’s Eve bingo session. Doors open at 5 p.m., early bird games start at 6:15 p.m. Tickets are $30, and includes dinner, noise makers, and a continental breakfast after midnight. Winners must be 18 and older. New Year’s Eve Duck Drop and Fireworks

Havre de Grace is known as the “Decoy Capital of the World,” so it’s only fitting that the Susquehanna Hose Company hosts an annual Duck Drop on New Year’s Eve. Susquehanna Hose Company Chief Scott Hurst, said a duck, constructed out of foam, will be suspended 100 feet in the air with a ladder truck and will drop at midnight to celebrate the new year.

“This event gets bigger and bigger each year,” he said.

This free family-friendly event, held on the grounds of Havre de Grace Activity Center, 351 Lewis Lane, also features music, refreshments and a fireworks show at midnight. The festivities begin at 11 p.m. For more information, visit http://susquehanna5.com/annual-duck-drop/.

American Legion Post 47 New Year’s Eve Party

The Joseph L Davis Post 47 American Legion’s annual New Year’s bash will feature SURGE, a rock cover band. Tickets are $65 a couple, $35 for singles, and includes beer, light fare and a champagne toast at midnight. The party begins at 8 p.m.

Noon Time New Year’s Eve Celebration

Port Discovery Children’s Museum in Baltimore, hosts a day of New Year’s Eve activities. Abbi Ludwig, with Port Discovery, said the event is one of the most popular at the museum.

“[It] is unique in that it offers an indoor, noon time countdown with a balloon drop, much like you might experience at midnight, but at a time that’s better suited for earlier bedtimes, along with an indoor winter wonderland of activities for children and families to enjoy together,” she said.

New Year’s Eve Spectacular

Baltimore’s “New Year’s Eve Spectacular” celebration features a colorful fireworks display and live music at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater, starting at 9 p.m. For more information about Baltimore events, visits https://baltimore.org/events.

Glen Echo Park New Year’s Eve Swing Dance

Glen Echo Park, in Montgomery County, hosts an annual New Year’s Eve swing dance for all ages, and all experience levels. The theme this year is “1957 Senior Prom,” and will include a live band, Blair Carman and the Belleview Boys.

“The evening includes a beginner swing lesson in the price of admission,” said Debra Sternberg, vice president of Gottaswing LLC, who is organizing the event. “We rotate partners in the dance lesson, so everyone gets a chance to meet new folks. It’s a wonderful social event. We get people of all ages, all walks of live, all levels of experience.”

Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance, $35 at the door, and includes light food items. The festivities are held in Glen Echo Park’s Spanish Ballroom, on 7300 MacArthur Boulevard, Glen Echo. For more information, visit http://glenechopark.org/new-years-eve-swing-dance-6.

Annapolis New Year’s Eve Celebration

The City of Annapolis hosts two rounds of events. Starting at 3 p.m., children’s activities will take place on Weems-Whelan Field behind Maryland Hall, 801 Chase Street. This free event includes face painting, an obstacle course, moon bounces and live music. The first round of festivities conclude with fireworks at 5:30 p.m.

The second round of festivities includes live music and dancing at Susan Campbell Park at City Dock beginning at 8:00 p.m. and ending with midnight fireworks.

Family New Year’s Eve Party

Adventure Park USA, a family entertainment center in Frederick County, offers several options on New Year’s Eve. Price of admission includes unlimited use of the laser tag area, ropes course, rock wall, bumper cars and arcade, from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Tickets are $25 online and $33 at the door.
