OSD stresses need for increased investment in tactical cellular solutions

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. – Dr. William Roper, director, Office of the Secretary of Defense’s Strategic Capabilities Office, or OSD SCO, visited the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center, or CERDEC, to learn about wireless communications Jan. 10, 2017.

During a tour of the CERDEC Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate, or S&TCD, Roper was offered hands-on demonstrations that highlighted the Cellular Enabled Communications mission program. S&TCD’s Commercial Technology Evaluation and Integration Branch is a leading participant in the OSD SCO to reduce the risk of fielding cellular technologies to the tactical edge.

Roper stressed the need to increase Army investment in automation and autonomous systems – machine learning – for tactical cellular solutions.
