Learning to make healthy choices at the Commissary

Family member Christine Chambliss (left) uses a fat loss monitor to calculate body fat percentage and body mass index with help from Health Promotion Technician Lowrell Bellard, with the APG Army Wellness Center, during the Healthy Lifestyle Festival at the Commissary June 16, 2017.

Hosted by Kirk U.S. Army Health Clinic and the Commissary, the community event featured free blood pressure screenings as well as information about tobacco cessation, electronic cigarettes, exercise, nutrition, weight loss and TRICARE benefits. Registered dietitian Angela Lang, with KUSAHC, talked to shoppers about reading nutrition labels and picking the best produce.

Robert Ward, a U.S. Army retiree, said the event was “convenient and a good idea.”

“The services offered at APG are wonderful,” he said.
