Memorial Day serves as a solemn reminder of the valiant men and women in uniform who have given their lives in service to our country. On this day of national awareness and reverence, we take pause to remember the fallen, to stand in solidarity with their loved ones, and to honor the sacrifice they made in defense of our freedoms and liberty.
In the years following World War I, President Calvin Coolidge famously shared that, “The nation which forgets its defenders will itself be forgotten.” As Americans, we are forever indebted to the 1.2 million service members who have lost their lives in battle since the American Revolution. On May 29, we have a duty to ensure their legacies are not lost to history. Please consider attending one of the many local Memorial Day events (listed below) as we remember their lives, their courage, and their service.
For many, this weekend also symbolizes the start of the summer season. As you participate in outdoor activities, I ask you to remember that proper behavior, risk management and discipline are essential to your safe return; safety impacts our readiness and any loss is one too many.
Thank you for your hard work, dedication and support to Team APG. Lucas and I wish you a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend.
Maj. Gen. Randy S. Taylor, APG Senior Commander
