A custom of character

Perhaps no custom reveals our character as a Nation so clearly as our celebration of Thanksgiving Day.” — President Ronald Reagan

This Thursday, our nation will once again join together in comradeship as we recount the blessings and freedoms afforded to all Americans. As Soldiers and civilians of our country’s finest fighting force, Thanksgiving provides a unique opportunity to pause and reflect on our Army’s intangible offerings – the gifts of leadership, courage, and our overarching military prowess.

During this time of gratitude and appreciation, Dianne and I want to extend our deepest thanks to all of you, our APG and CECOM family, for the vital role you play in the defense of our nation. Each and every day, I am continually impressed by the dedication of our “Trusted Professionals” and your unyielding support to the true heart of our Army – the warfighter.

As we prepare to enter the holiday season, I ask that you remain mindful of our military and civilian personnel currently serving in harm’s way and keep their families back home in your thoughts. Their selfless service continually ensures our liberties and allows us to keep faith with the rest of the world. In turn, we must keep faith with them and all they strive to protect.

Many of our Soldiers, civilians and their Families will use this holiday weekend to travel outside of the local area for some well-deserved downtime. The advent of fall also brings hazards unique to this time of year. As the temperatures drop, I encourage all travelers to take the time to assess the circumstances and plan ahead, evaluate the hazards and exercise caution.

On behalf of the entire APG leadership team and their families, I wish everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving. However you choose to spend your day, I hope you rest, recharge and return to us safely.

Trusted Professionals Always, Army Strong!
